The European Baking Steel
Unrivalled quality – Locally produced
4x
4 times the capacity
Due to its higher density (weight), The Pizza Steel can store almost four times as much heat as a standard baking stone.
18x
18 times better at conducting heat
18 times more effective at absorbing and conducting heat than a regular pizza stone, resulting in a beautiful pizza rim and a deliciously crisp base and crust.
Why can’t the fantastic results we’re used to from a traditional stone oven be replicated using a standard pizza stone or baking stone?
Firstly, you need to understand what it is that makes a stone oven so fantastic. When a stone oven is heated, a large amount of heat is stored in a mass of stones that act as a sort of heat accumulator. Although stone does not have a particularly high density, the enormous quantity of stone that makes up the oven easily compensates for this.
So when you take a standard pizza stone and put it in the oven, it simply doesn’t cut it :-(. Heat is absorbed more easily through contact with a solid than through the air. You can easily hold your hand in the air inside an oven heated to 100 degrees, whereas it is not advisable to place your hand on a stone heated to 100 degrees. In the same way, a baking stone absorbs heat slowly from the air in the oven and releases it quickly to the dough when it is placed on the baking stone. This means that the stone releases heat faster than it can absorb new heat, and because of its low density/weight per cm³, there isn’t enough heat in a thin baking stone for it to bake a pizza perfectly, let alone bread and baguettes.
Due to its higher density (weight), a steel baking stone can store almost four times as much heat as a standard baking stone of the same dimensions. At the same time, the steel is a full 18 times* more effective at absorbing new energy/heat from the oven, resulting in a beautifully baked crust and a crisp base. …and because the dough requires less heat from your baking steel during the final stage of baking, the steel automatically ‘recharges’, so it is ready to take on a new batch of dough once the first batch is fully baked.
*Steel conducts energy/heat about 18 times more efficiently than stone.

The Pizza Steel and Peel in one perfect combination.
The peel is designed for the pizza steel and is the perfect companion to help you easily slide the pizza on and off the steel.
- 18x higher conductivity than ceramic baking stones and 4 times the heat capacity. This lets it send much more heat energy to your crust so you can get the same great results from your home oven, as in a professional baking oven.
- Professional results - Perfect crusts, better blistering, and faster cook times.
- Highest quality - Lasercut in Denmark from super conductive carbon based Swedish steel.
- 10 year "it won't break" guarantee
Made to last a lifetime!

Made in Denmark
The Pizza Steel is designed in Denmark and continues to be produced locally. We are a small family run business placed in the heart of Denmark. We value locally produced goods, long relations and solid craftmanship. Our aim is for the product to last a lifetime (or two). We do not support today’s throwaway culture.

Swedish high-quality steel
We only use high quality ultra conducting steel from Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB. This gives us a pure product that meets our high quality standards, whilst the CO₂ emissions involved in transporting the steel from Sweden to Denmark are far lower than they would be with cheaper steel from China.
FAQ
Why should I buy the 1+1 combo?
It’s no secret that the best advertising we can get is happy customers who bake for their friends and acquaintances. That’s why we’re naturally keen to ensure that as many customers as possible have the best possible starting point.
The Pizza Steel, combined with the matching peel, is, in our view, the perfect duo.
Without The Peel, you’ll find it difficult to get the pizza, rolls or bread onto The Pizza Steel and back off again. What’s more, The Peel always comes in the same size as The Pizza Steel, so you can make the best possible use of the space on The Pizza Steel; and because they’re the same size, you can store The Pizza Steel and The Peel together, taking up as little space as possible.
That way, you’ll get the most out of The Pizza Steel, and you’ll be far more likely to recommend it to friends and acquaintances.
That’s what you might call a ‘win-win’ :-)
Doesn’t The Pizza Steel use much electricity?
No, even with today’s high electricity prices, there’s still plenty of money to be saved by baking your own bread.
If you place your baking tray in the oven and heat it to 250 degrees for 45 minutes, then bake two trays of organic rolls or ciabatta buns (24 in total), it will cost around 5 cents per roll or ciabatta bun today – and that includes both electricity and ingredients!
Remember: The Pizza Steel is designed to last for generations and only gets better with age, as the steel becomes darker and darker and thus better at retaining hea
*Our calculation is based on a price of 40 cents per kWh, standard organic wheat flour from your supermarket, and a standard Siemens oven. If you bake larger batches, the price per bun will naturally be lower, as it is the heating-up process itself that uses the most electricity. A modern oven with an energy rating of A-/A+++ consumes approximately 1 kWh per hour.
Does The Pizza Steel have a coating?
No, The Pizza Steel is not surface-treated. Neither with Teflon (which would be completely unsuitable for such high temperatures) nor with any other coating that risks being damaged within a couple of years without being able to be restored. When you receive The Pizza Steel, it will come with a guide that explains in simple steps how to care for and protect the steel. Broadly speaking, it’s similar to looking after your favourite cast-iron pan. It takes a bit of extra effort at first, but in return you can enjoy a product that only gets better with age.
Why not use stainless steel?
Stainless steel has an outer layer consisting mainly of chromium. Unfortunately, this layer inhibits the steel’s ability to absorb and conduct heat, which is why stainless steel isn’t particularly well-suited for baking :- (.
For our baking steel, we therefore use exclusively high-quality Swedish steel, which is much better at absorbing and conducting heat than stainless steel.
Is The Pizza Steel food-safe?
Yes, The Pizza Steel is food-safe.
We use only the best steel from the Swedish company SSAB, so that we can be sure of consistent quality that meets the strict Danish and European food safety standards at all times, and, of course, we follow the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration’s recommendations regarding traceability and requirements for products intended to come into contact with food, including compliance with migration limits.
You can find our latest ‘smiley’ report from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration here
Does your product or packaging contain PFAS?
No, we only use packaging and anti-rust paper that are PFAS-free. That sort of thing shouldn’t be used anywhere :-(
